City of Mississauga News

Did you know that for the 2025-2026 winter season, Mississauga cleared all public sidewalks, including 1,550 km of priority routes (major roads/bus routes) and 900 km of residential sidewalks?

As a result, we've received several inquiries about damage caused by the plows to some lawns in the neighbourhood.  While the City’s sidewalk plow operators try to minimize sod damage as much as possible, some damage can still occur.  Sod damage can happen because:

  • Overgrown sod on the sidewalk can easily get caught in the plow.
  • The plow can unintentionally lift and tear apart wet sod.
  • Deep snow hides sidewalk edges from the operator.
  • Obstacles, such as parked vehicles, plants, lawn fixtures or sprinklers, can force operators onto the grass.

You can REPORT SOD DAMAGE ONLINE or call 311 (905-615-4311 outside City limits).
