UPDATE (March 23, 2015):

Emerald Ash Borer Infected Trees Removed: Now What?

The Forestry Department has provided us with some more updates now that most, if not all, of the tree removal has taken place.

The next step is STUMP REMOVAL. Although this has not yet been scheduled, we've put in the request to have the work order go through.

The next phase is ASSESSMENT. The forestry department will inspect the affected areas to determine spacing and which species can be planted.

The final phase is REPLANTING. The forestry department anticipates that many of the replacements will be boulevard-sized trees, but this has not been confirmed. While there is no firm date, they speculate planting will begin in April 2016.

Given the scope of tree clearing, we are looking for volunteers to act as a liaison with the forestry department to keep abreast of the progress and to be allowed to voice our input and/or concerns. This is particularly critical during the stages when tree choices (and sizes) are being evaluated.

(January 31, 2015) This past week City of Mississauga forestry staff worked at the Painters Green Park (Indian Road / Cobalt Street) marking trees with an Orange X to identify which ones are infested with the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB).   City-contracted crews will be in the park over the next few weeks to remove all marked trees.  After the initial tree removal, the tree stumps will be removed and the ground will be repaired with topsoil and reseeded.  All work will be weather-dependent.

If you think the ash trees(s) on your property have been infested with EAB, visit the City of Mississauga website to learn what you can do:   mississauga.ca/eab
