SodDamage 640xIf you experienced damage to your grass from the snow clearing operations this past winter, there is a new system in place for reporting.

Residents can call 3-1-1 now and have a Service Request created which will be forwarded to the Works Department.  Please note: Work will not commence until such a time that weather and soil conditions allow and subject to the availability of sod.

GypsyMoth 650xThe European Gypsy Moth is a pest found throughout North America. The caterpillar eats the leaves of trees which may damage the overall health of the tree. Gypsy Moth populations have been in the City of Mississauga for many decades.

The City is now inspecting and choosing City-owned Oak trees to do Integrated Pest Management (IPM) to help manage the Gypsy Moth population in the City. IPM combines biological, physical, and chemical tools in a way that minimizes risks to health and the environment. IPM does not eradicate a particular pest entirely. Rather, it keeps pest population at a manageable level so they do not cause significant damage to trees and the tree canopy

Things you can do on your own trees:

  • Install burlap wraps around tree trunks, and collect and destroying caterpillars (May-September)
  • Scraping off and destroying egg masses (until mid- May; August - April)
  • Using pheromone traps to capture and confuse male moths (June to August)

These steps have proven very effective in controlling Gypsy Moth. A few weeks ago, Forestry held an open house for Ward 2 residents to provide them information on how to treat Gypsy Moth. All attendees received a free moth trap.  To learn more about Gypsy Moth, visit

Below are details for an invitation to attend a Stormwater Residential Program Workshop, April 13th, 2016;  Please RSVP at the link below by Friday, April 8

The Charge

You may already be aware that properties in Mississauga will be assessed for a new stormwater charge which has begun appearing on the Region of Peel water bill. Please visit our website,, for details.

 A Residential Program?

In October, Ward 2 Councillor Ras passed a motion approved by Council to establish a working committee of Councillors and appropriate staff to consider a credit program for residential properties with stormwater volume reduction measures. That motion is available online as part of the published meeting minutes of City Council on October 28, 2015 (page 14).

An application will be presented for the land (701 & 805 Winston Churchill Boulevard) that was formerly approved for the natural gas pwer generating station.   The application is proposing to remove permissions for the previously approved plans.

A Public Meeting will be taking place on Monday April 11, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at the Civic Centre Council Chambers, 300 City Centre Drive. The purpose of the meeting is to have the applicant present their proposal to both members of the public and Council. The applicant is proposing to subdivide the land for employment uses along Winston Churchill Blvd. and industrial uses internal to the site which I believe is in keeping with similar type of land uses in the area.

If you have any questions prior to the scheduled meeting, please contact myself or David Breveglieri, Development Planner for this application at 905-615-3200 ext. 5551 or by e-mail at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Watercolours Incorporated

It seems Watercolours was the perfect location for scenes for a TV pilot being filmed around the GTA. On August 18, 2015, thanks to the cooperation of affected residents, the production filmed scenes along Canyon Street between Cobalt and Infinity as well as the Cobalt Street entrance that resulted in the road closure for part of the day.

The TV pilot, being produced by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck's Pearl Street Productions, CBS Television Studios and Universal Cable Productions for the SyFy Channel is entitled "Incorporated". Set in the dystopian future where global corporations have limitless power.  The series follows Ben Larson, who is forced to change his identity to infiltrate a cut-throat corporate world to save the woman he loves. Filming will continue around the GTA until September.

Please note that there will be filming of exterior scenes for an upcoming TV pilot currently entitled "Incorporated" for the SyFy Channel. "Incorporated" is an espionage thriller set in the future.

Filming will be on August 18, 2015 | 7:00am until 11:00pm

A temporary road closure has been permitted on Cobalt St from Indian Road to Canyon St between the hours of 9:00am – 3:00pm only. Peel Regional Police will be on site at all times to assist with road closure and traffic control.
