A meeting has been scheduled regarding the proposed Bell Telecommunications Tower Relocation.   The community meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 11th from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm at Clarkson Community Church (formerly Chartwell Baptist Church), 1880 Lakeshore Road West, Mississauga.

The cell tower in question is located at 1150 Lorne Park Road. For more information provided by Bell, please click here PDF

Telecommunication tower/antenna facilities are exclusively regulated by Federal legislation under the Radiocommunication Act and administered by Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED). Therefore, Provincial legislation such as the Planning Act, including zoning bylaws, does not apply to these facilities. It is important to understand that ISED, while requiring proponents to follow the City of Mississauga Telecommunication Tower/Antenna Facilities Protocol, makes the final decisions on whether or not a tower facility can be constructed. The City of Mississauga can only provide comments to ISED and does not have the authority to stop the construction of a telecommunication tower/antenna facility.

Written submissions should be forwarded to: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. as soon as possible. Applicants are required to respond to any resident concerns in writing.

"The City of Mississauga will be conducting an aerial spray treatment program to lower fall cankerworm and gypsy moth populations. Successive years of leaf loss due to caterpillar feeding can make trees vulnerable to disease and weather fluctuations." - from City of Mississauga website

While Lorne Park Watercolours is not an area being sprayed, we are in close proximity of areas that will be.    The City has scheduled a number of Open Houses to help residents better understand what is being done.    Forestry staff will be teaching techniques for managing both fall cankerworms and gypsy moths on your property as well as explaining details about the upcoming aerial spray program.

The Open House in Ward 2 is on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 • 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Chartwell Baptist Church, 1880 Lakeshore Rd W.

There is also one scheduled in nearby Ward 1 on Monday, April 16 • 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Clarke Hall, 161 Lakeshore Rd W

UPDATE#2 September 26, 2017 - The City Councillors voted unanimously (11-0) to accept the city planning department's recommendation to NOT accept the developer's application to rezone 1260 Kane Road.

The City of Mississauga Parks and Forestry Department will be holding a number of workshops where staff will be teaching correct tree banding techniques.    As mentioned in an email we received from Councillor Karen Ras:

On September 4th to 8th , BioForest Technologies Inc., a contractor for the City of Mississauga, begun monitoring for gypsy moth and cankerworm populations in all impacted Wards. The main focus of their work is to outline all of the areas impacted by cankerworm and gypsy moth based on service requests and past monitoring. This includes Wards 1, 2, 6, 7, and 8.  Additional monitoring will be taking place in Wards 5, 9, and 11 based on our existing gypsy moth monitoring program. BioForest will provide the City with both interim and final reports, late fall and early winter, on predicted population levels and defoliation forecasts for 2018 to help inform management decisions.

Gypsy moth egg mass surveys are the first step and will take 3-4 weeks to complete. BioForest staff will count egg masses on trees to help forecast defoliation for 2018. City staff will work with BioForest to scrape egg masses off trees that are easily reached to help reduce populations as part of our regular integrated pest management program.
